Rice Pearl With Pumpkin Coral Necklace

$150.00 Regular price $300.00

Pearl, a June birthstone, has long been a symbol of purity. The ancient Greeks believed that pearls were the hardened tears of joy from Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Pearls were presented as gifts to Chinese royalty as early as 2300 BC, while in ancient Rome, pearl jewelry was considered the ultimate status symbol. So precious were the spherical gems that in the 1st century BC, Julius Caesar passed a law limiting the wearing of pearls only to the ruling classes!

The origin of the word coral is traced to Greek korllion and Latin coralium probably both derived from the early Hebrew goral meaning "small pebble". Appearing as solitary forms in the fossil record more than 400 million years ago, corals are extremely ancient animals that evolved into modern reef-building forms over the last 25 million years. The creation of a Coral reef is not a quick process. Coral teaches patience. The colony may grow as little as a millimeter in a year! The result is one of nature's most impressive sculptures with no two exactly alike.
